Bulk Fiber

Gruber Communications offers a great selection of bulk single mode fiber cable and bulk multi-mode fiber cable for all of your business needs. Essentially, single-mode cable is smaller, but is able to transmit data over a longer distance, while multi-mode cable is much larger and is used to transmit data over shorter distances.

If you need to transmit data over a long distance, then single-mode bulk fiber cable is your best bet. With a core between 8 and 10 microns in diameter, these cables can transmit data up to 40 miles with a bandwidth of 1Gb’s. However, single mode transmitters typically use solid-state laser diodes, which are two to three times more expensive than mlutli-mode equipment. Multi-mode fiber optic cable bulk, which are larger and have more bandwidth, are capable of transmitting data over a few miles, but running the cable that far will limit the bandwidth from 10Mhz to 30Mhz. It’s important to consider all of these factors before you decide which type of fiber optic cable is best for you.

    Multi-Mode (54)

Multi-mode fiber patch cable is the type of optical fiber typically used to transmit data across short distances, such as across a college campus or throughout a corporate building. OM1, OM2, OM3, and OM4 fiber cables are, progressively, capable of supporting more bandwidth and/or transmitting data over longer distances. Bulk multi-mode fiber is used as a backbone network infrastructure for its reliability, high carrying capacity, and lower power consumption.
